19/10/2017 - From 22-28 October, a chamber ensemble of 11 EUYO members are in Shanghai for the first Orchestra Exchange Programme of the 2.5-year Experience Europe campaign sponsored by the EU Delegation to China. The aim of the Exchange Programme is to foster understanding between China and the EU. The 11 travelling EUYO members will play side by side with young Chinese musicians from the EUYO’s Global Exchange Partner, the Shanghai Orchestra Academy, under the direction of EUYO tutors. This is an exciting opportunity to bring together musicians from different cultures to learn and exchange different approaches to performance, form musical friendships, and deepen understanding across continents. The 2017 Exchange Programme will include rehearsals, cultural exchange sessions and workshops, and will culminate in a performance on 27 October 2017 at the Chamber Hall of the recently constructed and much praised Shanghai Symphony Hall building.
EUYO's return to China follows previous appearances in China in 2010 as part of Shanghai Expo 2010, in 2008 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and in spring 1984 in Canton (Guangzhou), Shanghai and Beijing.
