HRH Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands to attend EUYO concert in Amsterdam

The EUYO is honoured to announce that Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands has accepted an invitation to attend the Orchestra's concert at The Concertgebouw on 26 August.

7/7/22 – On the occasion of the 30th concert of the European Union Youth Orchestra in The Concertgebouw on 26 August 2022, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands accepted the Orchestra's invitation to attend the event. As an Honorary Patron of the European Union Youth Orchestra, HRH Princess Beatrix has attended many of the EUYO's Amsterdam concerts, most recently in 2016, 2019 and 2020, meeting the Orchestra's young musicians, including those from the Netherlands.

The strong relationship between the EUYO and The Concertgebouw goes as far back as the first concert of the Orchestra, which was held there on 28 March 1978 under the direction of Claudio Abbado. This relationship was further reinforced by the links with the late Bernard Haitink, conductor Laureate of the EUYO and honorary conductor of the Concertgebouworkest.

An official Cultural Ambassador of the European Union, the Orchestra brings together the most talented young musicians from all 27 EU member states in a diverse orchestra united by a shared sense of European heritage, innovation, sustainability, and the constant pursuit of excellence.

For the 26 August concert, 111 EUYO members will be led by one of the most important of the EUYO’s conductors, Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, in a programme consisting of the Dutch première of Nexus, by Hannah Kendall, a commission of the European Broadcasting Union; Sergei Rachmaninoffs Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with piano soloist Francesco Piemontesi; and Igor Stravinskys spectacular Le sacre du printemps.

The Amsterdam concert is part of the EUYO’s Peace in Europe project, a series of concerts across Europe dedicated to the cause of Peace and highlighting the plight of victims of violence at this challenging time. The series opened in Italy in March, followed by performances in Finland and Greece. Peace in Europe concerts will also take place on 8 August in Berlin, 18 August in Grafenegg, 21 August in Lusławice, and in the 26 August performance in Amsterdam which forms part of the SummerConcerts series powered by VriendenLoterij.

HRH Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands is by any measure one of the most important and valued of our Honorary Patrons, and it is always a highlight when she is able to attend a performance.” Commented Marshall Marcus, EUYO Secretary General, “We are particularly delighted and honoured by her planned visit in 2022, the first to one of our large-scale concerts since the onset of the Pandemic. Taking place in the incomparable Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, this will be a night to remember for all of the EUYO’s young performers”.
