The EUYO announces a new Board Member: Emmanuel Hondré

29/03/2021 - The European Union Youth Orchestra is delighted to announce that Emmanuel Hondré, Director of the Concerts Department at the Philharmonie de Paris / Cité de la musique in Paris, is joining the EUYO Foundation Board. The Board has responsibility for overseeing the activities of the European Union Youth Orchestra.

I have had the pleasure of knowing EUYO for several years,” commented Emmanuel Hondré “and I know how much this orchestra is not an orchestra like the others: it works rather as a permanent project, as a reservoir of active, sensitive and intelligent ideas which help to train the talents of tomorrow. There are many youth orchestras, but very few reach that level of originality and experience which allows to consider the orchestral work as a complete work about life. Certainly, the fact that this orchestra is European touches me particularly: at a time when certain voices are raised to find that the initiatives uniting different cultures are too heavy, I continue to think that this complexity is indeed our fortune and our luck for the future. The EUYO is in essence a symbol of the European future which is being built and which is constantly changing, thanks to the younger generations”.

Emmanuel Hondré is responsible for programming at one of Europe’s greatest concert halls and music organisations. He is a world-known music expert, often serving as jury member in international music competitions and committees. A visiting professor in several universities around the globe, such as the Paris Institute of Political Sciences, the Shanghai Art and Culture School, the Moscow Gnessin Academy of Music, and the Amsterdam Royal Conservatory of Music, he is regularly invited to give lectures and seminars on musical management and programming.

It is a great pleasure to welcome Emmanuel Hondré as a Board member of the Orchestra and look forward to working with him” remarked Sir John Tusa, EUYO Board Co-Chair “Emmanuel's deep experience of classical music in Europe strengthens still further our continent wide links and our connections in France. His appointment  continues our development of Board members with deep involvement in the pan-European musical environment as befits an Orchestra with an ambassadorial remit for the European Union”.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Emmanuel Hondré to the Board of the EUYO. For the first time ever we welcome a French member to the governance of the Orchestra, and in the case of Emmanuel, a board member who is at the very heart of European music making. With his work at the Paris Philharmonie and the Cité de la musique I am sure that he will make a great contribution to the future of the Orchestra” said Martijn Sanders, EUYO Board Co-Chair.
