11/1/2022 – The EUYO expresses deep sorrow at the news of the passing of David Sassoli last night at Aviano. Aged 65, he had recently been hospitalised in Italy.
Born in Florence, David Sassoli enjoyed a career as a journalist and newsreader before entering politics. He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009, and was elected vice president five years later. In 2019 he was elected President of the European Parliament and Honorary President of the EUYO, positions he held until his passing.
Sassoli has always impressed as a person of great integrity, honesty, generosity and intelligence, and he will be sorely missed. For the EUYO the loss is particularly profound, as following the footsteps of all his predecessors since 1976, he was the Orchestra’s Honorary President. We join all of Europe in expressing condolences to President Sassoli’s family and colleagues for the loss of a great person as well as a great champion of European values.

11/1/2022 – L'EUYO esprime profondo dolore per la notizia della scomparsa di David Sassoli ieri sera ad Aviano. Sessantacinquenne, era stato recentemente ricoverato in ospedale in Italia.
Nato a Firenze, David Sassoli ha intrapreso la carriera di giornalista prima di entrare in politica. È membro del Parlamento europeo dal 2009 e ne è stato eletto vicepresidente cinque anni dopo. Nel 2019 è stato eletto Presidente del Parlamento Europeo e Presidente Onorario dell'EUYO, cariche che ha ricoperto fino alla sua scomparsa.
Sassoli ci ha sempre colpito come una persona di grande integrità, onestà, generosità e intelligenza, e la sua mancanza sarà profondamente sentita. Per l'EUYO la perdita è particolarmente significativa, poiché seguendo le orme di tutti i suoi predecessori dal 1976, è stato Presidente Onorario dell'Orchestra. Ci uniamo a tutta l'Europa nell'esprimere alla famiglia e ai colleghi del Presidente Sassoli le nostre condoglianze per la perdita di una grande persona e di un grande sostenitore dei valori europei.
