Miguel Jiménez Barranco

Miguel Jiménez Barranco is 21 years old and was born in Málaga, Spain. At the age of four he moved to Luxembourg, where he grew up and did all his early studies.
He took his first viola lessons in 2005 under the guidance of Danielle Hennicot at the Luxembourg Conservatory. There, he also spent many years in the boys‘ choir ‘Pueri Cantores’ and took lessons in different other subjects like singing, piano, harmony, and chamber music. In 2017, he entered the conducting class of Carlo Jans, with whom he continues to have lessons to this day. Miguel had the chance to take part in several orchestral projects as how the ‘Coopération Musicale de la Grande Région’ or ‘Side by Side’ with Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra or Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra and has also played with the contemporary music ensemble ‘United Instruments of Lucilin’. Other highlights include performances in Shanghai Symphony Hall, Qingdao Grand Theatre, Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra Royal de Liège, Théatre National de Luxembourg and Philharmonie de Luxembourg.
His musical career was very much enriched by conducting and viola masterclasses and lessons with Ivan Iliev, Nils Mönkemeyer, Tatjana Masurenko, Garth Knox, Thomas Riebl, Richard Wolfe, Ilia Korol and Jean Sulem.
In 2019, Miguel Jiménez Barranco started his viola studies with Prof. Johannes Lüthy at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe.
