Mathilde Barillot

Mathilde was born in 1996 in Niort (France). She started studying piano at the age of 11 and double bass at 14 in her hometown.

She entered the National Superior Music Conservatory of Lyon (CNSMDL) in 2017, in the class of Cédric Carlier and she joined the French Youth Orchestra the year after. She spent two years there, in tutti position and then as principal. In 2019, thanks to the musXchange program, she had the opportunity to play in the Spanish Youth Orchestra. She then decided to extend her experience in Spain by doing an Erasmus at esmuc, studying with Uxía Martínez Botana.

What Mathilde likes most of all is playing in an orchestra: the repertoire, the sound, the energy, simply the music! She also likes a lot to play in chamber music and to discover the contemporary repertoire and creations (2021 Ulysses Ensemble). She is deeply interested by both tango and classical music, she played in several tango ensembles and professional orchestras (Lyon Opera House, Mulhouse Symphonic Orchestra…).
