Thomas Byka

Thomas Byka was born in 1999 in Athens, Greece. After graduating with distinction from the class of Katerina Lioudaki at the Raimondi Conservatory, Thomas continued his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia the year of 2017/18 with Alessandro Carbonare.
He has attended masterclasses with distinguished musicians, such as Alessandro Carbonare, Ron Selka, Olivier Patey, and Jordi Pons.
In 2013, he won the 2nd Prize and the title of Laureate at the International Music Competition “The Muse” as well as the 1st Prize and the special Prize of Marika Karamanou at the Panhellenic Music Competition “Marias Cherogiorgou-Sigara” in 2016. In 2019, he was also awarded 1st Prize and the felicitations of the jury at the “41st Concours National D’Execution Musicale.”
His musical activities are divided between orchestral and chamber music. As an orchestral player, Thomas has had, since a very young age, been involved in some of the most important youth orchestras in the world; The European Music Campus Orchestra, Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra, and European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, where he served as concertmaster. Over the years, he has performed with a wide range of ensembles around Europe, including Chamber Academy Basel, Neues Orchester Basel, Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, Armonia Atenea, World Youth Orchestra, Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Diagonal, Theater Basel, and Swiss Chamber Soloists, and has shared the stage with many prestigious conductors and musicians, namely Daniel Harding, Dima Slobodeniouk, David Watkin, Jan Cober, Ramon Tebar, George Petrou, Jürg Henneberger, Heinz Holliger, Sergio Azzolini, and Emanuel Abbühl among others.
Since 2018 he is studying at the “Hochschule für Musik FHNW Basel” in the class of François Benda where he graduated with distinction in 2021 and now continues with his Soloist master - specialized performance studies.
