Rafael Catalá Salvá

Rafael Catalá Salvá started his studies 2013 in the preparatory programme of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria (KUG) with Prof. Dr. Kerstin Feltz. Since 2019, he studies with Prof. Johannes Krebs in the bachelor´s program.

Rafael has won several first prizes in the Austrian Music Competiton „Prima la Musica” in the category “Violoncello Solo” as well as in the chamber music category (2019 in the “Young Masters” program of the Music University in Vienna). In 2021 he won the 1st Prize in the International Chamber Music Competition “Luigi Zanuccoli” in Italy with his piano trio “Triade”, tutored by Prof. Chia Chou.
In 2020 he was chosen as the “Young Festival Artist” of the Chamber Music Festival “Zwischentöne” in Engelberg, Switzerland.

During many international masterclasses, Rafael Catalá had the opportunity to learn from renowned artists such as Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Péter Somodari, Tamás Varga, and László Fenyö.
He gained orchestra experience in various different orchestras, e.g., as the principal cellist of the “Jeunesse” Youth Orchestra of Vienna, in the International Orchestra Institute of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (IOIA), and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE).
2022 he became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO).
