Josef Wijk

Josef Wijk (2000) is a Swedish oboist from Örebro (Sweden).
 
He began playing the oboe at the local music school when he was 9 years old. Later Josef moved on to studies for Mårten Larsson, Principal Oboe of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and Jesper Harryson, Principal Oboe of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
 
Through the years Josef has played in lessons and masterclasses for several recognised oboists, such as Jean-Louis Capezzali, Nick Deutsch, Gordon Hunt and François Leleux. Josef has also played as a substitute in several of Swedens most renowned orchestras, including Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
 
Josef has participated and won prizes in several national and international competitions for young musicians and has twice won third prize in the Swedish Polar Star Prize, where he performed as a soloist with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. In 2020 he won second prize in Danish/Swedish competition Øresunds soloist and more recently he won first prize in Stockholm International Music Competition 2021 and 2022.
 
In June 2022 he finished his bachelor’s degree at the Academy for music and drama in Gothenburg, Sweden after continued studies with Mårten Larsson. Since September 2022 Josef studies at Haute école de musique de Genève in Switzerland with professor Alexei Ogrintchouk, Principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw orchestra in Amsterdam.
