Ciara Kushner

Born in 1997, Ciara Kushner is an Irish-American cellist who grew up in Austria. Since 2015 she has been studying at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Professors Rudolf Leopold and Julian Arp. Before that, she was in the preparation program of the University in Graz, studying with Andrea Molnar.
A passionate chamber musician, she has performed with her quartet at events such as “200 Years Kunstuniversität” in the Musikverein Graz and had lessons with the Carmina Quartet, Reinhard Latzko and Alfred Brendl. She has attended masterclasses with teachers such as Raphael Wallfisch, Claudio Bohorquez, Jerome Pernoo, Marc Coppey, Xenia Jankovic, Christoph Richter and Wen-Sinn Yang. Since 2018 she is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and has toured Europe and the Middle East, performing at venues such as the Royal Albert hall for the BBC Proms, the Concertgebow Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus Berlin under the batons of Vasily Petrenko, Gianandrea Noseda and Manfred Honek.

In 2019 Ciara was a recipient of Kunstuniversität Graz’ Ursula Grill scholarship for young cellists. She finished her Bachelor’s Degree in 2020 with first class honours.
