Cornelia Horak

The Austrian soprano, Cornelia Horak, studied from her 12th year recorder with E. Kölz at the Conservatory of Vienna and with Hans Maria Kneihs at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. As a child she was an enthusiastic choir member (with Voces Vienna, with Concentus vocalis and La capella) and had her first voice lessons at the Vienna Volkhochschule with Hilde Rössel-Majdan, whose first student she was at the Goetheanischen Konservatorium (1990-1993). With the Baroque singing classes with Cristina Miatello in Padua, she completed her musical education. She was the winner of the International Lied Competition in Hertogenbosch and was twice nominated for the Mercury Theatre Award in Munich.

Cornelia Horak is due to her versatile repertoire, a popular opera and concert singer. In 1999-2000 she was a member of the Vienna Volksoper. At the same time she sang at the Munich Gärtnerplatz Staatstheater, which she joined in 2000-2001. During her permanent engagement from 1993 until 2007 at the Landestheater Innsbruck (Tyrolean State Theatre; 1993-1999), at the Vienna Volksoper and at the Gärtnerplatz Theatre in Munich (2000-2007), she earned more than fifty roles. These have included opera roles as Ilia in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo, Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Marzelline in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio; operetta roles as Hanna Glawari in Die lustige Witwe and Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and even musicals as Hello, Dolly! and Kiss Me, Kate. She made her debut at the Grazer Oper in the 2007-2008 as Lisa in Gräfin Mariza.

Cornelia Horak has also a wide concert repertoire. Guest performances and concerts have led her to several European opera houses and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, Feldkirch Schubertiade, Ludwigsburg Festival, Styriarte Graz, Vienna Festival Weeks, Saalfeld Jazzfest, Haydn Festival at Eisenstadt, Musica Viva Festival of the Bavarian Radio, Budapest Spring Festival and Festival L'Arte salva L'Arte in Rome. She has worked with conductors including Peter Schreier, Friedrich Cerha, Howard Arman, Bruno Weil, Nicholas McGegan, Richard Hickox, Sir Neville Marriner and Adam Fischer.

Cornelia Horak participated in L. Nono's Intolleranza 1960, conducted by Lothar Zagrosek at the Theate La Fenice in Venice, worked in the staged implementation of George Frideric Handel's Messiah, directed by Claus Guth at the Theater of Vienna, with the Composer R. Strauss' Ariadne embodied in the Vienna Volksoper and the young lady was in A. Reimann's Ghost Sonata at the Vienna Chamber Opera. She sang in Klagenfurt, the performance of the oratorio Elisabethby N. Fheodoroff, at the festival in Ossiach the premiere of A Feast for phantom Dietrich Bonhoeffer by Th. Desi, the soprano solo in L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis conducted by Ivor Bolton at the Vienna Konzerthaus, and Expectation of Arnold Schoenberg the Schönberg Center in Vienna. 2012, she appeared as Konstanze in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Volksoper in Vienna and as Fortuna / Juno in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno di Ulisse at the Theater in Vienna.
