Alexa Nieschlag
Alexa Nieschlag was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. Growing up bilingually with her American mother and German father in Münster, Germany, she went on to study law in Cologne, Germany, before moving to New York City in 2001.
There, she worked as a fundraiser for the Salzburg Festival before spending more than five years at Carnegie Hall, first in Artistic Programming and subsequently in the Executive Office. During this time, she began to translate as a freelancer and also branched out with projects as diverse as managing a touring tango show and co-founding and managing a small amateur chorus.
In 2008, she returned to Germany, settling in Berlin, where she became orchestra manager of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic. Here, she was responsible for the day-to-day running of all aspects of the orchestra, establishing it on the international youth orchestra scene. She left the Baltic Youth Philharmonic at the end of 2011 and currently works as a freelance translator specializing mainly in music and the arts. In 2013 she worked as interim projects manager for the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) in London.
Since 2014 she has been concert producer, editor and translator for the youth orchestra festival Young Euro Classic in Berlin. She also organizes the German auditions for EUYO at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin (since 2016) and has been recruitment manager for EUYO since 2018.
