Venla Lahti

Venla Lahti (2002) started playing the double bass in 2009 at The East Helsinki Music Institute. There she studied mainly with Tarja Nyberg. In 2017 she was accepted to the Sibelius Academy Youth Department to study with Lasse Lagercrantz and she continued her studies at the same school to complete her Batchelor’s Degree in 2021.

Venla has performed many concerts solo and with different ensembles, also as a soloist with an orchestra, with The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in spring 2021. She has gained orchestra experience from The Helsinki Strings, Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic International Orchestra Institute Attergau, Lahti City Orchestra, Espoo City Orchestra, and European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), which she has been a member of since 2020.

In 2016 Venla won the first prize in the middle school series in Nuorten kansallinen kontrabassokilpailu (Finnish National Youth Duble Bass Competition). In March 2021 she performed as a young soloist with The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO). She has taken part in Esko Laine's, Ödön Racz's, and Janne Saksala’s masterclasses.
