Pietro Scimemi
Born in Padova, Italy in 2002, Pietro began to play the cello at the age of four. At six, he was admitted into the cello class of Luca Simoncini at the Rovigo Conservatory of Music, where he earned his diploma at the age of 15 with honors.
In 2014, as a winner of the Beethoven Prize of the Rovigo Cello City Festival, Pietro had the honor to perform the first Beethoven sonata with the pianist Bruno Canino. The following year he was awarded the absolute first prize in the Salieri International Music Competition. First prize winner in numerous national competitions, including Riccione, Giussano, Treviso and Forlì, in 2019 he won first prize both at the “Migliori Diplomati” Competition and at the “Premio Alberghini” Competition.
From 2018 to 2020 Pietro studied with Marianne Chen at the Vecchi-Tonelli Institute of Musical Studies in Modena and participated in the summer course of Wen-Sinn Yang at the Salzburg Mozarteum, as well as in masterclasses with Jens Peter Maintz, Giovanni Sollima, Christophe Coin, Monika Leskovar, Alexander Chaushian, Thomas Grossenbacher, Rafael Rosenfeld and Patrick Demenga. In the summer of 2019 Pietro was selected as a member of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra.
Pietro is currently a second-year mathematics student at the University of Pavia, Borromeo College and Institute for Advanced Study IUSS Pavia. He studies in the cello class of Antonio Meneses at the Stauffer Foundation in Cremona and plays in the Trio Antenore together with his violinist brother Tommaso and the pianist Davide Scarabottolo.
