Anna Crawford

Anna is a third-year undergraduate scholar at the Royal College of Music, studying cello with Melissa Phelps. Prior to this, Anna studied with Julia Desbruslais.
Her highlights as a soloist include performances of the Elgar Cello Concerto with Bromley Youth Symphony Orchestra and Kent Concert Orchestra, as well as performing the Haydn D Major Cello Concerto in Rochester Cathedral. She has given recitals at venues including Egerton House, Ashford Parish Church and
Fairfield Halls. In 2020, Anna took part in the London Mozart Players ‘Cello-Fest’ concert, performing the Haydn C Major Cello Concerto.
In 2019, Anna was awarded first prize in the Royal College of Music Cello Competition and the North London Festival Premier Challenge Competition. She has performed in masterclasses with cellists including Gemma Rosefield, Guy Johnston, and Hannah Roberts. Anna was a prize-winner in the Rotary National Young Musician of the Year 2017 and was the 2018 recipient of the Peter Rogers Music Scholarship.
Since 2020 Anna has been a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra. She is also very active in both chamber music and orchestral playing at RCM, playing with conductors including Peter Stark, Michael Rosewell and Vasily Petrenko. Most recently, she performed Mahler’s Symphony no. 9 with Martyn Brabbins, as principal cellist of the RCM Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, Anna performed at the BBC Proms as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain
and in 2019 she toured Russia and the UK as part of the Britten Shostakovich Festival Orchestra.
