Olivia Høilund-Carlsen Ruud
Danish/Norwegian violinist Olivia Høilund-Carlsen Ruud was born in Oslo, Norway in 1995, and started playing violin at the age of six. She studied at a pre-college programme at The Norwegian Academy of Music during her last year of high school before being accepted for bachelor studies at the conservatory of Trondheim, Norway.
In Trondheim she studied with professors Bård Monsen and Anna Gebert, including an exchange year in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the Academy of Music and Drama with professor Tobias Granmo. During her studies in Trondheim she worked regularly with the The Trondheim Soloists and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
Olivia did her master’s degree at Edsberg Manor, Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied the soloist/chamber music programme with professors Per Enoksson and Mats Zetterqvist (COE).
Olivia then studied at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra Academy, with teachers including Patrik Swedrup, Seohee Min, Johannes Lörstad, Claudia Bonfiglioli and Amus-Kerstin Andersson, all with section leader or concertmaster positions of the orchestra.
Since moving to Stockholm in 2018 she has performed with several professional orchestras in Norway and Sweden, including The Royal Swedish Opera, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
Olivia is currently on trial for co-principal 2nd violin in Gävle Symphony Orchestra (Swedish Philharmonia), and has also won the audition for tutti 2nd violin in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
