Originally from Leeds in Yorkshire, Tom began playing percussion at the age of 8 whilst in the Leeds Youth Percussion Ensemble, and after showing interest, began individual percussion and timpani lessons with Mark Wagstaff, Chris Bradley and Adrian Spillett.
Currently, Tom is studying his Bachelor degree at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Here he is taught percussion and timpani by Nick Woud, Mark Braafhart and Bence Major of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as regular marimba lessons with renowned marimbist, Rachel Xi Zhang. In 2017, Tom was awarded the Julius Isserlis Scholarship from the the Royal Philharmonic Society to continue to pursue his studies in Amsterdam.
Professionally, Tom has worked with renowned orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé and Opera North. In 2013 and 2017, he was also part of the London Symphony Orchestra Academy. Alongside his orchestral playing, Tom is a member of CHOPS duo, a percussion duo formed in 2016 with his friend and colleague, Dámaso Escauriaza. The pair have performed recitals and concertos across Europe.
