Silvia Costa

Italian politician and journalist, during her time as an MEP in the European Parliament she was a member of the Committee on Culture and Education, including being its chair from 2014 to 2017, and serving as vice-chair of the Delegation for relations with Iraq from 2009 to 2014 and as a member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality from 2009 to 2012. She also served as Rapporteur to the European Parliament for the Creative Europe Programme. Before serving in the European Parliament Silvia Costa was a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies from 1983 to 1994, and from 1995 to 2005 was a member of the National Council for Economics and Labour. She has also worked as a journalist for several leading Italian newspapers and the national broadcaster RAI, and was editor of the daily newspaper Il Popolo from 1978 to 1985.
