Tonio Comesaña is a Galician clarinetist, currently member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE).
Recently graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he studied there for 4 years under the guidance of Arno Piters and Hans Colbers. Previously, he studied with Vicente López at the Escola de Altos Estudos Musicais de Galiza and with Felipe González Agell at the conservatory of his hometown, Vigo.
In the orchestral scope, besides the already mentioned, he has been a reserve member of the most important youth orchestras in Europe: Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Academy or the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJO).
As a soloist, he has made appearances with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia, Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Granada and Joven Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Salamanca.
He is awarded in various competitions, including among others: 1st prize and best woodwind player in the 14th National Performance Contest “Intercentros Melómano” (2015), 3rd prize in the International Clarinet Competition "Guy Deplus" (2021), 2nd prize in the 14th edition of the “Terras de la Salette” Wind Instruments International Competition (2019).
As a member of the Matthias Van den Brande Group, a nonet that combines Jazz with Classical music elements, he recorded in 2018 a CD in the prestigious Wisseloord Studios.
