Henry Hargreaves
Henry studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Felix Schmidt and Ben Hughes and graduated with Distinction, the DipRAM and the Edwin Samuel Dove award for special merit. Whilst a student he was awarded a place on the London Symphony Orchestra String Experience scheme, where he performed and rehearsed with the LSO and performed side by side with the Nash Ensemble at Wigmore Hall. Last October Henry was a participant in the Pit Perfect project at Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
Henry is currently on trial for the Sub Principal Cello (no.2) job with Welsh National Opera and the Principal Cello no.3 job with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In addition Henry is on the extra list with the Philharmonia Orchestra and English Touring Opera, where he has performed as Principal Cello. Henry joined EUYO in 2021 and has also been invited as a substitute cellist with the LGT Young Soloists and played with the Britten Pears Orchestra.
Aside from performing Henry is a committed cello tutor and has enjoyed working with many cellists privately at home in London and also at the Youth Music Centre in Hampstead Garden Suburb (North London), where he oversees the administration of the school and teaches cello. When time is free Henry can be found cooking, walking, exploring places to eat and drink with friends and keeping up to date with all the latest thrillers and dramas on Neflix and the BBC.
