Michael Scharfetter grew up in Radstadt/Salzburg and received his first horn lessons at the age of 9 at the local music school. After completing his school career he did his military service, serving with the military music in Salzburg. Since October 2017 he has been studying at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz with Prof. Raimund Zell and Christian Pöttinger.
Michael has won multiple prizes at the Austrian young musician competition „prima la musica“ and is a member of the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester. He has also been able to gain valuable orchestral experience as a regular substitute in the Bruckner Orchester Linz since 2018. Furthermore he is very much looking forward to join the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestra.
Several masterclasses with Christian Friedrich Dallmann, Wolfgang Gaag and Johannes Hinterholzer, among others, complete his studies.
Apart from making music Michael enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking in the Austrian alps or riding single trails with his mountain bike.
