Stephan Gehmacher
Born in Salzburg in 1970, after completing his law studies, Stephan Gehmacher worked as director of concerts for the Salzburg Festival for six years before becoming the personal executive assistant of Sir Simon Rattle in 2001.
From 2002 to 2008 he was the head of artistic planning of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2008 Mariss Jansons engaged him as the manager of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2013 Stephan Gehmacher has been director general of the Philharmonie Luxembourg and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.
He serves regularly as a jury member and consultant to cultural institutions, including Radio France and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as a member of the board of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg (2005) and the Alban Berg Foundation in Vienna (2017).
From 2013 to 2020 he was chairman of the board of the Fondation EME – Ecouter pour Mieux s’Entendre before becoming vice-chairmain in November 2020.
