Concert for a sustainable Europe

Tuesday 21 May, 9:00 pm

For the inauguration of the third Italian Sustainable Development Festival, which will take place all over Italy from May 21st to June 6th, the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) and the String Ensemble of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) present the “Concert for a Sustainable Europe”, by Director and solo violin Antti Tikkanen: a highly symbolic event, given the imminent European elections of May 26th, designed to draw attention to the enormous economic, social, environmental and institutional challenges Europe will have to face to improve the quality of life of its citizens and to contribute to sustainable development in all of its dimensions.

The Concert, in a journey through the different dimensions of life on Earth, aims at fostering reflection upon the commitments undertaken by Italy vis à vis the rest of the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the European Union, whose founding Treaties recognize sustainable development as one of its primary objectives. The performance by the European Union Youth Orchestra has been programmed around four themes relevant to sustainability: Listening to the world, The lessons of war, Nature rewritten, The human spirit.
