Greek violist Alkistis Misouli’s Café Bauhaus project in 2024 stems from a concert she organised for Ukrainian refugees two years ago. “This”, Alkistis recounts, “filled me with such a powerful sense of purpose that I knew I wanted to continue this work. It was much more than a concert for me. It felt absolutely necessary.”

With colleagues Delaram Kafashadeh (vocals), Joy Schechter (piano), Azubike Onwuka (bass) and Rafael Motilla (drums), Alkistis is now using her Café Bauhaus Award’s seed funding to launch a series of concerts in centres for refugees in Amsterdam. The first event took place on 21 March 2024, at Utrecht’s Asylum Centre/COA. The second follows under a month later, on 15 April at Azc Willinklaan.
