What do you get when you combine 111 musicians from 27 countries, 2 world-famous conductors and 3 star soloists, 13 internationally-renowned tutors, 12 executive team members…performing, in total, to over 10,000 seats throughout Europe? Answer: the EUYO summer tour!

2023’s tour featured our regular summer residencies and concerts at home in Grafenegg and at the Bolzano Festival Bozen, plus further concerts at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wiesbaden Rheingau Festival, Berlin Konzerthaus, and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.

We were delighted to work with conductors Sir Antonio Pappano and Manfred Honeck, and soloists Julia Fischer (violin), Benjamin Grosvenor and Martin James Bartlett (piano). Two full-scale symphonic programmes presented music by Beethoven, Richard Strauss, James MacMillan, Prokofiev and Shostakovich; wrap-around chamber music and outreach events added de Arriaga, Bacewicz, Coleman, de Falla, Gubaidulina, Ibert, Kopetzki, Malando, Manoury, Márquez, Ravel, Thomas, Tomasi, Turrin, Scheidt, Shalygin, Skoryk, and Viardot…to the mix.

Behind the scenes, EUYO Summer 2023 was underpinned by new, experimental music labs, encompassing musicians’ mental wellbeing, deep dives into repertoire, and new rehearsal techniques. Orchestral rehearsal methods have hardly changed for hundreds of years, so we shook things up – as documented in on-tour social media!
