I Concerti della Stauffer - Stauffer Concerts - give young musicians direct experience of every aspect of live performance management, developing the Stauffer Academy's long tradition of excellence in advanced musical training. EUYO musicians went to Cremona for this new opportunity, working with acclaimed violinist Kolja Blacher.

Ensemble Nuovi Orizzonti reimagine early and classical music through contemporary soundscapes and community-driven residencies. Their 2025 EUYO Café Bauhaus** **project, 'Responsoria', took place in Bergamo. The ensemble created their programme in residency at the Piccole Serve del Sacro Cuore di Gesù, a Bergamo convent with a wing dedicated to hosting young and creative people.
EUYO alumna Malin Grass (Violin, 2019–2021)'s 2024 Café Bauhaus project combined old and new music, early instruments, and electronica.
EUYO musicians returned to Turku, Finland, in an ongoing collaboration making 360°VR recordings for groundbreaking research into neurological rehabilitation.
Now in its fourth year, our collaboration with the Fondazione Stauffer Cremona offered EUYO string players a fantastic opportunity to work intensively on questions of musical leadership, in a centre of excellence for both music and luthery.

These were the subjects of the 2024 European Music, Arts & Business Forum in Vienna on 29 November: an event powered by Aussenwirtschaft Austria & curated by the Center for Applied Music Research and Campus Cultur at University for Continuing Education Krems, in cooperation with the EUYO.
With their 2024 Café Bauhaus Award, double bassist Catharina Feyen (EUYO 2021) and colleagues created a double bill of concerts combining free improvisation and musical commentaries on the Western classical canon.

Dos Miradas - 'Two Views' is EUYO alumna Sofía Fasla Prolat's 2024 winning Café Bauhaus project. It explores concepts of artistic freedom - or its suppression - through string quartets of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
The European Cultural Heritage Summit 2024, organized by EUYO Creative Partner Europa Nostra and under the High Patronage of Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, will spotlight Cultural Heritage and Digital Transformation. The EUYO presented its digital project 'A Visit to the Tower of Babel' a multi-genre work combining film, art, architecture, and music.
"This is much more than concerts for me. It feels absolutely necessary." Alkistis Misouli's Café Bauhaus project brought shared music making into Amsterdam centres for refugees.
EUYO Music Director Iván Fischer founded the Bridging Europe Festival in 2013, with the aim of bringing together Europe's incredibly rich, varied musical and cultural traditions. With Hungary holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2024, September's Bridging Europe connected Hungary and Belgium. EUYO alumni joined Maestro Fischer, Diana Tishchenko (violin), Jenő Lisztes (cimbalom) and the Budapest Festival Orchestra for concerts in Budapest and Brussels.
At the heart of our home in Lower Austria is a close partnership with Grafenegg and the Lower Austrian Musik & Kunstschulen Management (MKM).
On 26 July, EUYO ensembles performed five different programmes in five iconic spaces throughout Vienna. Like the El Sistema founded by José Antonio Abreu in Venezuela in 1975, Sistema Europe’s mission is to transform the lives of children, young people and their families in communities from every section of society through the practice of orchestral and vocal ensemble music-making. EUYO alumni were part of the teaching faculty for Sistema Europe's Song for the Earth.
The Paax Fellowship is the Paax GNP Festival's international programme for outstanding young orchestral musicians. EUYO alumni David Tobin (violin), Sasha Witteveen (double bass), Martino Moruzzi (clarinet) and Chris Brewster (trombone) were invited to be part of the teaching faculty in 2024.

Under the motto ‘Europe is Here’, the EU Delegation to Albania held a series of events throughout Europe Week 2024 to promote inclusiveness, diversity, and human rights. The concert took place in collaboration with the Western Balkans Youth Orchestra and the European Youth Choir of Tirana.

The Heroes Festival is produced by Music Innovation Hub alongside the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASVIS), and in collaboration with the UN SDG Action Campaign. Sharing the stage with us at the festival's grand finale closing concert was Italian rap star BigMama.
On the occasion of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bozar Brussels, the Concertgebouw in Bruges, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi joined forces to host EUYO's Spring Tour. All events took place as part of the Belgian Presidency's cultural programme, and our Europe Day concert in Brussels under the Patronage of the European Parliament.

In our third collaboration with the Stauffer Academy, EUYO string players joined forces with the musicians of Stauffer's Concertmaster Artist Programme, a course devoted to training professional orchestra leaders. The residency culminated in a special concert for the city of Cremona.
In collaboration with Finnish neurologist Prof. Emeritus Seppo Soinila and his research team at the University of Turku, Pianist Pauli Kari is now developing 360° recordings and virtual reality glasses to recreate a live concert experience for patients. So far, EUYO has contributed twice to this outstanding project.

The European Union was Guest of Honour at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2023, the largest book fair in the Spanish-speaking world. As Cultural Ambassadors for the EU, EUYO was delighted to perform three times during the event.
Cafe Bauhaus award-winners Rasma Larsens (violin), Lucija Pejković (cello), and Karolina Pancernaite (piano), presented Collab: a project aimed at engaging audiences in a unique and interactive way by creating accessible, multi-sensory experiences.
EUYO's online model sharing symposium was open free of charge to youth music managers throughout the European Union, and the further Creative Europe participating countries. More than 50 colleagues joined us on Zoom for an excellent day of online discussion and exchange.
From September 27-29, 2023, EUYO Executive & Artistic Director Marshall Marcus and four EUYO violinists contributed artistic interventions and intermezzi to Europa Nostra’s European Cultural Heritage Summit. It was symbolically held in Venice: breathtaking centre of human accomplishment for centuries, now also environmentally and civically beset by over-tourism.
Frontrunners is EUYO’s online learning programme for the musical leaders of tomorrow. It began life as sessions during the pandemic for the EUYO community, but has now become an open resource.
The day after our summer tour opening concert in Grafenegg, we held a highly successful side-by-side event as part of our MusicHub Austria collaboration with the Lower Austrian Music Schools. This is a think global, act local initiative, a vital concept both in music education and wider cultural governance.
Our 2023 summer tour welcomed conductors Sir Antonio Pappano and Manfred Honeck, soloists Julia Fischer, Benjamin Grosvenor and Martin James Bartlett… and 111 musicians from 27 countries performing to some 10,000 seats, while reaching thousands more through recordings, broadcasts, and social media.
EUYO alumna Anna Mędzkiewicz (viola) and pianist Michał Mędzkiewicz are the Nordic Duo, and their Café Bauhaus project was dedicated to the city of Mo i Rana, just below the Arctic Circle in Norway. Their launch concert celebrated the evolution of community and culture within the industrial cityscape.
Our Café Bauhaus 2022 winner, Thirteen North, brought classical music to new and more diverse audiences. Classical music, Scottish modern trad and three short films were all part of Thirteen North's 'Connected' in Glasgow UK.

On May 9th, 2023 (Europe Day), EUYO musicians were invited to perform at the Federal Chancellery of Austria’s Europe State Prize awards ceremony. In the presence of Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution Karoline Edtstadler and Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, prizes were given in five categories: Europe in the Community, Europe in Education, Europe in Art and Culture, Europe Without Borders and Explaining Europe.
EUYO's 'Earth4All' 2023 spring tour was themed around democracy and climate change, including the world premiere of Carmen Fizzarotti's The [Uncertain] Four Seasons. Visiting Poland, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Greece, EUYO raised awareness of culture's voice in conversations about a better future for people and planet.
On the personal invitation of Lorenzo Fontana, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament, an EUYO string quartet performed in a special event marking one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. It was our honour to join in this act of remembrance.
At the centre of our new home, Music Hub Austria brings school-age pupils into contact with our EUYO musicians from throughout the European Union. The model is now also being extended, to Music Hub Italia and Mobile Music Hub Europe.

We honoured 100 years of Lower Austria Statehood with a Brussels concert on Austria's National Day. On the programme: Mozart, Haydn, and the rare works of fellow Austrian composer Otto Bach.
EUYO was delighted to provide musical interventions during the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2022 in Prague. The Summit included the annual Cultural Heritage Awards ceremony, cultural heritage sessions, and the European Heritage Policy Agora “For a Value and Culture-Driven Europe”.
Trobairitz: Histoires Naturelles consisted of two cross-art chamber music concerts in Paris, inspired by the female, early Medieval wandering "Trobairitz" troubadours.
Immersive, multi-media performances where chamber music, video projections, video-mapping, live electronics and field recordings come together, performed in all corners of the Balearic Islands.
The 2022 Summer Tour comprised 15 public performances in Austria, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Poland, almost half of these being free informal events. Music included the world premiere of Hannah Kendall's Nexus, and a special focus on Poland.
An EUYO string quartet gave two Cultural Ambassador performances at the 26th Europa-Forum Wachau: musical interventions during a forum focused on Safeguarding Europe's Future, and listening to the opinion of young EU citizens about key European issues.
In the first event of its kind, Italy Sounds Classic presented three days of concerts, conferences, workshops and meetings in Bologna. It aimed to bridge the gap between music school and the classical music profession, favouring meetings, encounters, and exchanging opinions.
The World Human Forum's Alpha Mission Δelos raises global awareness about the climate crisis. Our concert for the Mission was the first time a classical orchestra has performed on the sacred island of Delos. It was live-streamed and broadcast by ARTE, and subsequently won the award for best-televised concert at the 59th Golden Prague International Festival.
On Europe Day during the Year of European Youth, the EUYO launched its Café Bauhaus community music programme. The three 2022 Café Bauhaus Award winners were announced live at 18.40 CET, as part of a livestream event powered by the European Cultural Foundation.
The 2022 spring tour saw us launch our Peace in Europe concert series in solidarity with Ukraine, honour EU peace advocate David Sassoli, engage young audiences through informal concerts, and pilot an immersive residency model in Finland.
As cultural ambassador for the EU, the EUYO plays a key role in promoting peace in Europe. Our young musicians from all 27 EU Member States working together embody the EU principle of _Unity in Diversity, _and offer tangible evidence that the best hope for harmony in Europe is through promoting youth, culture and co-operation.
EUYO was delighted to announce a new creative partnership in 2021 with the Stauffer Center for Strings, Cremona. A project as Ensemble in Residence allowed EUYO string players to explore new ways of bringing pupils and teachers together, guided by Steven Isserlis.

Venice, one of the most environmentally endangered cultural heritage sites, was the city chosen by Europa Nostra to host the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2021. Gathering leaders of major EU insititutions to reaffirm the vital importance of cultural and environmental heritage for the future of Europe, the EUYO contributed with two performances on Thursday 23 September 2021.
EUYO returned to to Ferrara for an autumn residency blending traditional and fresh performances, our "Music Minus the Rules!" community project for younger audiences, and three debates as part of the EU's Conference on the Future of Europe.
Adapting to pandemic restrictions, we ran two 70-player orchestras: Orchestra Claudio and Orchestra Joy. Orchestra Joy, named after EUYO Founding President Joy Bryer, carried our their residency in Bolzano before touring with EUYO Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko.
An EUYO string quartet serenaded Ferrara's dawn at 6:30AM, closing Ferrara's Pink Week amidst the city's pink-lit landmarks and special cultural events.

As the pandemic forced theatres, museums and other cultural centres to close, EUYO decided to create an innovative digital project that could unite the visual and performing arts in a new and different manner. The public première of this 9-minute short film, A Visit to the Tower of Babel, took place on the EUYO YouTube channel on 15 July 2021.
EUYO performed musical interventions at the Europa-Forum Wachau. Under the topic "Heading for New Horizons", the 2021 forum focused on listening to the opinion of young EU Citizens on central European issues, offering the perfect stage for two EUYO Ambassador concerts.
EUYO celebrated Europe Day 2021 and the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union with a special online performance on 9 May 2021. Taking the Portuguese Presidency theme 'Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery' as our inspiration, we named the event 'Time to deliver: What can the Arts do to help Europe's recovery?'.
The EUYO teamed up once again with its invaluable partner Europa Nostra to open the European Heritage Awards Ceremony on 10 November at 17.00 with a special online performance of the European Anthem.
The EUYO held a 10-day autumn residency at Grafenegg, culminating in a concert with conductor Marin Alsop and soloist Håkan Hardenberger. The performance, marking the UN's 75th anniversary, was recorded and broadcast in November in collaboration with Grafenegg and other partners.
The EUYO Ferrara Chamber Academy brought together chamber music education and performance, and professional and young European musicians as both teachers and performers. Musicians from the Chamber Orchestra of Europe mentored and performed with EUYO players, who in turn mentored selected young Italian musicians.
Still in the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic, it remained impossible physically to bring together a large group of musicians during the summer of 2020. But our Digital Summer Residency held 284 hours of online events, performances, rehearsals, chamber music, MusicLabs, workshops, well-being sessions and social hangouts. In addition, the European Music Gallery Festival held 24 concerts in 19 European countries, without cross-border travel or full-capacity audiences, streamed or recorded to nonetheless reach as many people as possible.
Supported by and realised in partnership with the EU Delegation to Turkey and Europa Nostra, 'Hope through Music' was a virtual event organised to inspire hope and unity during the global challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic. Featuring 112 young musicians from 30 countries, the event was a collaboration between the EUYO, the EU Delegation to Turkey, and Europa Nostra, with expert video and sound editing by EUYO members and alumni.
When the EUYO’s Spring 2020 residency and concert tour were cancelled due to COVID-19, the Orchestra quickly adapted by launching a 23-day online residency and the new EUYO Digital programme. This initiative featured workshops and lessons with world-class tutors and conductors, plus online performances, well-being sessions, and music labs. A new EUYO Digital Space was developed to support these activities, and a special webcast was planned for Ferrara to show appreciation for the city’s continued support.
Cancelled owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Orchestra in Città community programme would have held an extensive series of events between 20 March - 11 April 2020. You can find the planned schedule here.
Conducted by Marin Alsop, the EUYO performed at the opening of the 50th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum on 20 January 2020 in Davos, Switzerland. The event, themed "Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World," gathered 3,000 global participants to promote "stakeholder capitalism" and support sustainability goals. EUYO Executive & Artistic Director Marshall Marcus expressed the Orchestra's support for the Forum's focus on sustainability.
The National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the EUYO joined forces for The Frenergy Tour. Acclaimed Viennese conductor Sascha Goetzel led the four-city tour, with music by Rossini, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Stravinsky, and Wagner, as well as Canadian composer John Estacio’s Frenergy for orchestra. EUYO players subsequently joined the Cuban-European Youth Academy in a series of joint musical and cultural events.
The EUYO Ferrara Chamber Academy 2019 focused on chamber music teaching and performance, and included an interesting pan-European and national element in the combining of professional and young players from Europe and the EU as both teachers and performers, as well as specific opportunities for young Italian musicians as part of the Orchestra's new residency and home in Italy.
Musica Ricercata and EUYO announced their cooperation on Europe Day 2019. The BaRockIN’ Transylvania project presented the music of Transylvanian baroque and classical composers, whose manuscripts were recently discovered.
In 2019, the EUYO launched 'The Listening Project' about the vital skill of listening, both for orchestral musicians and society at large. During the 2019 Summer Tour, the Orchestra extended this exploration to audiences. From traditional concert halls to informal spaces, we sought to understand and improve audience listening experiences.
To celebrate Matera, European City of Culture 2019, EUYO participated in one of the "Lezioni Materane" held in cooperation with Rai Radio 3 on monday 17 June 2019.
On Europe Day, EUYO will take part in the celebrations of the Legislative Assembly of Emilia Romagna region, in Bologna, Italy.
Orchestra in Città! is a major new initiative of the EUYO as part of its residency in Ferrara, aimed at spreading the joy of both music-making and listening to all sections of the communities that make up the city of Ferrara.
In celebration of Europe Day, EUYO alumni were invited to Myanmar but its Delegation of the European Union. A quintet of musicians taught and performed with the Orchestra for Myanmar, the New Children's Choir and the Singers from Mr Roger's Orphanage, Kachin Baptist Church, The Strand Singers, and The International School Yangon.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Lower Austrian liaison office in Brussels, a quartet of EUYO players gave a chamber music concert in the wonderful Concert Noble hall in Brussels.
On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Claudio Abbado's death, the European Union Youth Orchestra took part to an ad-hoc orchestra composed by members of the various orchestras created and led by the Italian conductor - a tribute to his great achievements and his memory.
Tuesday 15th January, on the occasion of the Romanian National Day of Culture, EUYO celebrate the start of the Romanian EU Council Presidency by performing one of the most beloved works of the Romanian composer George Enescu – his octet for strings.
The EUYO was honoured to be invited by DG GROW, the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission, and the Delegation of the European Union Delegation to China, to perform as part of the climax of the EU-China Tourism Year Closing Ceremony in the ancient Chinese Imperial Capital city of Xi'an.
On 11 November 2018 the European Union Youth Orchestra, together with their Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko, performed at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe during a ceremony marking the centenary of the end of World War I in front of 84 Heads of State and world leaders, and a live television audience of millions. The ceremony was overseen by President Macron and organised by France's Mission du centenaire de la Première Guerre mondiale.
In September 2018 the European Union Youth Orchestra and Ferrara Musica launch the first edition of the new EUYO Ferrara Chamber Academy.
From 5-13 July, a chamber group of EUYO musicians performed in Shanghai for the second Orchestra Exchange Programme of the 2.5-year Experience Europe programme sponsored by the EU Delegation to China. The aim of the Exchange Programme is to foster understanding between China and the EU.

The new annually chosen Grafenegg Academy Orchestra is a new initiative of Campus Grafenegg and has been established especially for the two-week programme of the Grafenegg Academy.
On Thursday 21 June, a string quartet of EUYO musicians performed at the European Cultural Heritage summit at the Neues Museum on Berlin’s museum island.
On Friday 8 June, 38 EUYO musicians performed at The European Culture Prize TAURUS ceremony in Dresden.
On 9 May, a group of EUYO musicians performed in Alicante as part of 2018 Europe Day celebrations. Presented by EUIPO, the annual Europe Day concert in Alicante took place in the ADDA concert hall in the city at 20:00.
On 18th December 2017, a chamber ensemble of EUYO musicians performed as part of Un Ensemble per la Cultura, an event organized by RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, to launch the 2018 Year of European Cultural Heritage in Italy.
From 21-28 October, a chamber ensemble of 11 EUYO members travelled to Shanghai for the first project of the three-year Experience Europe programme, sponsored by the EU Delegation to China. The aim of the programme was to foster understanding between China and the EU.
In October, the EUYO’s brass and percussion ensemble performed in a variety of locations throughout Asturias in the days leading up to a special ceremony in honour of the Princess of Asturias award for Concord which was bestowed upon the European Union in June 2017.
Organised in collaboration with Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU 2017 and conducted by Brian Schembri, the EUYO performed alongside the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Malta to mark Europe Day 2017. This collaborative concert featured musicians from EUYO as well as the Malta EU Presidency Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
EUYO in Berlin. A string quartet of EUYO players travelled to Berlin to perform as part of a commemorative event honouring the 50th anniversary of the death of Konrad Adenauer, the first post-war Chancellor of Germany from 1949 -1963.

This concert in the beautiful unique Gothenburg Koncerthuset, on 12 November 2016, was conducted by EUYO Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko, and featured Mahler's first symphony, together with Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante with soloists from the Orchestra.
Organised by the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and forming the conclusion of the Soul for Europe's 2016 conference Cultural Identities on the Move, the EUYO returned to perform at this key annual European event which they last participated in in 2014.
Organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture in a conference attended by EU Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, the EUYO performed as part of the Jean Monnet Annual Conference which brings together professors and researchers on EU Studies from all over the world.
