The excellent industry networking and professional development summit ClassicalMe took place in Timișoara, Romania from November 2-4, 2024. ClassicalME is an opportunity for musicians and music industry managers to dig down into how the music marketplace is evolving, and what key – and new – skills are needed.

On Saturday, 3 November, the EUYO was represented firstly by Executive & Artistic Director Marshall Marcus, who began with a keynote at 11:30 EET on Empowering the Next Generation: Tour Planning and Artistic Vision at the European Union Youth Orchestra. His online presentation went behind the scenes of all the interlocking considerations and complexities of conceiving large-scale tour programmes, and the relationship between them and the EUYO’s overarching artistic goals.

Following this at 14:30 EET, our Head of Production Alexandru Mija contributed to a round table about tour planning and management: From Vision to Execution, with a Focus on Sustainability.

Marshall and Alexandru were part of a varied and fascinating programme over the long weekend, with discussions ranging from the impact of European networks to technology and innovation in early music, via spotlights on young artists from the Timișoara region, Romanian orchestras and the renowned Enescu International Festival.
