EUYO musicians in Turku
EUYO in Turku! L-R: guest pianist Piotr Pawlak, David Ruiz Del Canto (Spain, Violin), Anja Kralj (Slovenia, Violin), Hanna Maria Semper (Estonia, Viola), Pietro Scimemi (Italy, Cello), Pauli Kari, Maria Männikkö

In December 2023, EUYO musicians went to Turku at the invitation of concert pianist Pauli Kari and the PianoDuo ConFuego Company. By developing virtual reality glasses and 360° concert recordings, Kari is on a mission to bring the experience of live music to people whose health does not permit them to attend concerts – with a particular focus on patients undergoing neurological rehabilitation after stroke or brain injury. Our EUYO string quartet gave two concerts as part of Kari’s Kaskenmäki Home Concerts, recorded in 360°. It was our second contribution to Kari’s project, the first being our symphony orchestra performance at the Grafenegg Festival on 13 August 2023.

Kari began this work following his own skiing accident. While recovering from it, he met Finnish neurologist Seppo Soinila, Professor of Neurology at the University of Turku, who has been researching music’s healing effects on the brain for over two decades.
